I have heard this question hundreds of times
since I myself first asked it in 1972.
I discovered that it was easy to find out what
the Technique was not. According to friends
who had studied Alexander's work, it was not
 like yoga, massage or Eastern
psychophilosophy; it did not involve exercises,
and it was much more sophisticated than
posture or relaxation training. My friends
suggested that I would never really
understand what the Technique was about
until I took some lessons. I did, and then
began to appreciate their difficulty in defining
      and describing it.
